Adults can legally get hormone therapy in Wyoming, mostly through telehealth and a few clinics such as Wellspring Health Access in Casper. Hormones, puberty blockers, and surgeries for gender transition are banned for anyone under 18 (since July 1, 2024). Wyoming Medicaid does not cover transition surgery for anyone, and state law does not stop private insurers from excluding trans care. There is no shield law.

If you are under 18, or a parent
Banned since July 1, 2024 (W.S. 35-4-1001, enacted by 2024 SF 99, "Chloe's law"). For anyone under 18, physicians and other licensed providers may not, for the purpose of gender transition: prescribe puberty blockers, give testosterone or estrogen at above-typical doses, perform mastectomy, or perform sterilizing or other surgeries. Penalty: providing this care is grounds for suspension or revocation of the provider's license.
Exceptions: care for a child with a medically verifiable disorder of sex development, or with central precocious puberty, with parental consent. Mental health care is still allowed, but not the banned medications.
No court has blocked the law, and Wyoming has no shield law. Some families seek care in states where it remains legal for minors. Wyoming Medicaid separately does not cover puberty blockers or hormone therapy for gender dysphoria for minors.

Plume
Trans-led telehealth service providing informed-consent hormone therapy, lab orders, prescriptions, and letters for surgery and documents, by app and video visit. Self-pay only since January 2026. A Point of Pride HRT Access Fund partner.
About $99 per month ($90 in NY and NJ), which includes visits, messaging, prescriptions, and document letters. Labs and medications are billed separately and are often cheap with GoodRx or at a community pharmacy. Free for 18 months if you win a Point of Pride HRT Access Fund grant.
QueerDoc
Small telehealth practice offering informed-consent hormone therapy with transparent sliding-scale pricing. Does not bill insurance for visits, but labs and prescriptions can go through your insurance. A Point of Pride HRT Access Fund partner.
Sliding scale by income; check the current pricing page.
Planned Parenthood
Many Planned Parenthood affiliates provide informed-consent gender-affirming hormone therapy alongside sexual and reproductive health care, on a sliding scale and with Medicaid. Most affiliates see adults 18 and older; a few see 16- and 17-year-olds with parental consent and a readiness letter. Many start hormone care by telehealth. Self-pay initial consults typically run about $120 to $250 before sliding-scale discounts.

Paying for care
Medicaid (Wyoming Medicaid)[3][4]
Wyoming Medicaid's provider manual (section 24.9) says it "does not cover gender transition or reassignment procedures for clients regardless of age or diagnosis" and "does not cover puberty blockers or hormone therapy for gender dysphoria for minors." It does not list hormone therapy for adults as excluded, so adult hormone prescriptions may be covered; ask your prescriber and pharmacy.
Who qualifies: Wyoming has not expanded Medicaid, so most adults without children, a disability, or a pregnancy do not qualify no matter how low their income. Parents, pregnant people, children, and people with disabilities may qualify. Apply online at the WES portal or call 1-855-294-2127.
Private insurance[5][6][13]
Wyoming has no state law that bars health insurers from excluding gender-affirming care, so check your plan's exclusions list. Marketplace (healthcare.gov) plans are sold in Wyoming; compare their coverage before enrolling. If a state-regulated plan denies a claim, appeal to the insurer first, then contact the Wyoming Department of Insurance, which has a complaint process and an independent medical claim review. Employer self-funded plans are federally regulated; the Trans Health Project has appeal templates.
The rules in detail
Rules for adultsNo Wyoming law restricts gender-affirming care for adults 18 and older.
No Wyoming law restricts gender-affirming care for adults 18 and older. In-person options are few, so most people use telehealth: Plume and QueerDoc serve Wyoming, and prescribe on an informed-consent basis (no therapist letter). Wyoming Equality keeps a private directory of affirming local providers and will match you by request (it keeps the list private for safety).
If you have no insurance and little money:
- Ask a community health center (find one at findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov). They must see you regardless of ability to pay and charge on a sliding scale; ask whether a provider will prescribe hormones.
- Wellspring Health Access in Casper offers hormone therapy and says it can help with financial assistance.
- Point of Pride's HRT Access Fund pays for telehealth hormone care (applications open once a year).
- Generic estradiol and spironolactone are usually inexpensive with a pharmacy discount coupon; ask the pharmacy for its cash price.
